The 2017 OECD Ministerial Statement stressed the potential of gender equality as a strong driver of economic development, inclusivity and socio-economic participation. It also acknowledged that progress towards gender equality is very slow, with some countries even witnessing widening gender inequalities. While many countries are raising the profile of the gender equality imperative and intensifying efforts to tackle remaining gaps, the effective and long-term realisation of gender equality remains affected by political shifts, socio-economic crises, persistent cultural barriers and insufficient institutional capacity across sectors. The OECD welcomed senior decision-makers from the public and corporate worlds, experts, academics and stakeholders to this event. Participants will focus on how to close gender gaps in the private sector, considering different policy approaches and implementation tools. They shared their experiences and insights on:
