Summary | On 14 May 2019, a group of individuals submitted a specific instance to the Chilean NCP alleging that ENEL, an Italian multinational electric company had not observed General Policies (Chapter II), Human Rights (Chapter IV) and Environment (Chapter VI) provisions of the Guidelines. ENEL Chile S.A., the Chilean subsidiary of ENEL, is the owner of the electricity generation facility, “Central Hidroeléctrica Ralco”, located in the Araucanía and Biobío regions of Chile. Specifically, the issues raised concern the flooding of an indigeneous burial ground, which ocurred prior to ENEL’s ownership of the facility. The Chilean NCP is conducting an initial assessment. #remedy #indigenousrights #renewableenergy #localsubsidiary |
