Summary | Read the Initial Assesment statement issued by the German NCP on 1 February 2005: German On 1 November 2004, Krall, a company, submitted a specific instance to the German NCP alleging that A. Knight International Ltd., a company specialised in the mining sector, had not observed the Environment (Chapter VI) provisions of the OECD Guidelines. The issues concerned allegations of illegal mining and export of minerals from conflict areas, namely the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC). Given that the company maintained links and supplied German and Austrian companies with mineral coltan, following coordination rules, the German NCP informed the Austrian NCP of the specific instance. On 1 February 2005, after thorough examination and consultations, the German and Austrian NCPs published an Initial Assesment Statement deciding not to accept the case as the examination of the allegations were made impossible due to the conflict in the DRC. #mining |
