| Summary | Read the Initial Assessment published by the NCP 18 October 2023: French On 30 June 2023, two members of French parliament submitted a specific instance to the French NCP alleging that Shein, a Chinese-Singaporean fast fashion retailer, had not observed the Disclosure (Chapter III), Human Rights (Chapter IV), Employment and Industrial Relations (Chapter V), Consumer Interests (Chapter VIII), and Taxation (Chapter XI) provisions of the Guidelines. Specifically, issues raised included respect for local law in the production and sale of Shein products in France, respect for human rights, working conditions, and the responsibility of the company in addressing such violations, the company’s due diligence in its supply chain, potential negative impacts on the environment and consumer health, compliance with the OECD recommendations on the publication of information, and respect for the interests of consumers by dissemination of information that may be erroneous. On 18 October 2023, the NCP published an initial assessment deciding to accept the case for further examination.
