Summary | On 9 December 2021, an NGO submitted a specific instance to the Ireland NCP alleging that a social media company had not observed the General Policies (Chapter II) and Human Rights (Chapter IV) provisions of the Guidelines relating to its services in Myanmar in 2017. The submitters alleged that the social media platform enabled the military and others to incite violence, which resulted in numerous human rights violations suffered by the Rohingya ethnic Muslim minority group. In the process of conducting the initial assessment in coordination with the US NCP, it was decided that the specific instance should be transferred to the US NCP to lead the procedure. The Irish NCP will maintain a supporting role |
