Summary | On 1 March 2022, RETE LEGALITA’ PER IL CLIMA, an Italian NGO network of lawyers and researchers, submitted a specific instance to the Italian NCP alleging that an Italian company active in the Agriculture, forestry and fishing sector had not observed the Concepts and Principles (Chapter I), General Policies (Chapter II), Disclosure (Chapter III), Human Rights (Chapter IV), Environment (Chapter VI), Consumer Interests (Chapter VIII), and Science, Technology and Innovation (Chapter IX) provisions of the Guidelines. Specifically, as the company operates in intensive livestock farming, which constitutes a significant source of emissions of methane and other pollutants into the atmosphere, the submitters request that the company publish all data and information necessary to evaluate whether it works to limit and manage risks associated with climate change. On 2 May 2023, the NCP adopted an initial assessment deciding to accept the specific instance for further examination. The decision was made not to publish the assessment in order to facilitate dialogue between the parties during the next stage of the procedure. #MNEs #nationallaw #caused #riskmanagementsystem #duediligence #environmentaldisclosure #corporategovernance #ESCR #climatechange #pollutionandwastemanagement #biodiversity #deforestation #degradation #consumerhealthandsafety #meatindustry #externalmediators #parisagreement, #rioconvention #UNGPs #Internationalhumanrightstreaties |
