Summary | On 14 February 2022, RETE LEGALITA’ PER IL CLIMA, an Italian NGO network of lawyers and researchers, submitted a specific instance to the Italian NCP alleging that an Italian company in the quarrying sector had not observed the Concepts and Principles (Chapter I), General Policies (Chapter II), Disclosure (Chapter III), Human Rights (Chapter IV), Environment (Chapter VI), Consumer Interests (Chapter VIII), Science, Technology and Innovation (Chapter IX), Competition (Chapter X), and Taxation (Chapter XI) provisions of the Guidelines. Specifically, the submitters noted the high greenhouse gas emissions from companies working in the fossil fuel sector and the importance of addressing such issues in light of the climate crisis. The submitters questioned the climate strategy of the company and requested that the company acknowledge the emergency and its firms’ contributions to climate risks, acting accordingly both in terms of the company’s related strategy and its accountability relating to impacts. On 21 December 2022, the NCP adopted an initial assessment deciding to accept the specific instance for further examination. The decision was made not to publish the assessment in order to facilitate dialogue between the parties during the next stage of the procedure. #nationallaw #caused #riskmanagementsystem #duediligence #environmentaldisclosure #corporategovernance #ESCR #climatechange #pollutionandwastemanagement #biodiversity #deforestation #degradation #consumerhealthandsafety #oilandgas #extractives #parallelproceedings #externalmediators #parisagreement #rioconvention |
