Summary | Read the Initial Statement published 14 July 2021: English On 16 December 2020, the Korean NCP received a specific instance from the Korean Civil Society in Solidarity with the Rohingya (KCSSR), Korean Transnational Corporation Watch and Justice for Myanmar (NGOs), alleging that POSCO C&C (coated-steel manufacturer), Inno Group (travel and terminal operator), Pan-Pacific (apparel and materials manufacturer), Hotel Lotte (tourism hotels) and Daesun Shipbuilding & Engineering had not observed the General Policies (Chapter II), Human Rights (Chapter IV), and Employment and Industrial Relations (Chapter V) provisions of the Guidelines. The KNCP received another submission with the same allegations against POSCO International (trade and development) on 26 February 2021. Given the identical nature of the issues submitted and the identity of the submitters, the KNCP decided to analyse the submissions jointly. Specifically, issues related to the business partnership between the above six enterprises, all headquartered in South Korea, and Myanmar Economic Holdings Limited (MEHL), a company tied to the Myanmar military and contributing to human rights violations against the Rohingya minority in Myanmar. The KNCP received informative submissions from all parties, except Hotel Lotte, but were not able to substantiate the claims made by the submitter. To this end, on 14 July 2021 the KNCP completed the initial statement deciding not to accept the specific instance, as the issues were unsubstantiated and would not contribute to the purpose or effectiveness of the Guidelines. The KNCP recommends that the companies provide further information to the submitters in good faith. #directlylinked #riskmanagementsystem #discrimination #hospitality #garment #automotive #heavyindustry #parallelproceedings #Internationalhumanrightstreaties |
