Summary | Read the Initial Assessment published 27 September 2021: English On 27 July 2021, Center for Research on Multinational Corporations (SOMO) on behalf of 474 civil society organisations (CSOs) in Myanmar submitter a specific instance to the Norwegian NCP alleging that Telenor ASA had not observed the General Policies (Chapter II), Disclosure (Chapter III), and Human Rights (Chapter IV) provisions of the Guidelines. Specifically, issues relate to an alleged lack of risk-based due diligence, stakeholder dialogue and disclosure in the company’s disengagement from Myanmar related to its decision to sell 100 per cent of Telenor Myanmar to M1 Group, a Lebanese investment holding company. According to the submission, the owners of M1 Group have a history of business in authoritarian countries and face unresolved allegations of corruption and terrorist financing. Both parties indicated during the initial assessment phase that they would participate in good offices if the specific instance were accepted. On 27 September 2021, the NCP published an initial assessment accepting the case for further consideration. #stakeholderengagement #disengagementandde-risking #duediligence #state-ownedenterprise #UNGPs |
