Summary | Read the Final Statement published 10 September 2024: English On 6 January 2016, the NGO Wider Earthquake Canterbury Network (WECAN), on behalf of two individuals, submitted a specific instance to the NZ NCP alleging that an enterprise active in the construction sector had not observed the General Policies (Chapter II) and Human Rights (Chapter IV) provisions of the Guidelines. Specifically, issues related to the company’s project management of the repairs to the submitter’s property in Christchurch following the 2011 Canterbury earthquake. The NZ NCP received ten specific instances related to the earthquake. While the decision not to accept the case was made and communicated to the parties previously, the specific instance was formally closed on 10 September 2024 , when the NCP published a final statement deciding not to accept the case for further examination. The decision was made as the issues raised could not be considered material and substantiated. The NCP noted that, since the specific instance had been submitted, the enterprise had developed and published a human rights policy with a reporting mechanism for alleged breaches. #directlylinked #duediligence #ESCR #insurance #localsubsidiary #Internationalhumanrightstreaties #policychange |
