On 14 July 2015, the NGO Wider Earthquake Canterbury Network (WECAN), on behalf of an individual, submitted a specific instance to the NZ NCP alleging that an enterprise active in the financial and insurance activities sector had not observed the General Policies (Chapter II) and Human Rights (Chapter IV) provisions of the Guidelines. Specifically, issues related to the company’s handling of the insurance claim concerning earthquake-related damages to the individual’s property in Christchurch following the events of the 2010 and 2011 Canterbury earthquakes. The NZ NCP received ten specific instances related to the earthquakes.

While the decision not to accept the case was made and communicated to the parties previously, the specific instance was not formally closed until 10 September 2024, when the NCP published a final statement deciding not to accept the case for further examination. The decision was made as the issues raised could not be considered material and substantiated.
