On 16 March 2015, Wider Earthquake Canterbury Network (WECAN) on behalf of two individuals, submitted a specific instance to the NZ NCP alleging that an enterprise active in the construction and financial and insurance activities sectors had not observed the General Policies (Chapter II) and Human Rights (Chapter IV) provisions of the Guidelines. Specific issues related to the company’s contracted project management role over repairs to the submitter’s property following the events of the Canterbury earthquakes in 2010. The NZ NCP received ten specific instances related to the earthquake.

The specific instance was not formally closed until 10 September 2024, when the NCP published a final statement deciding not to accept the case for further examination. The decision was made as the issues raised could not be considered material and substantiated. The NCP has since reported that the enterprise had developed and published a human rights policy with a reporting mechanism for alleged breaches.
