OECD Forum on Due Diligence in the Garment and Footwear Sector
11-13 February 2020 OECD Conference Centre, Paris
Forum on Due Diligence in the Garment & Footwear Sector
The year's edition of the Forum looked at "Due Diligence in a shifting context”.
Over 500 representatives from government, business, trade unions and civil society discussed the application of responsible business conduct within the sector in a neutral environment.
Plenary discussions explored how due diligence can be reconciled with trade tensions as well as the various shades of grey around mandatory due diligence. This year’s forum also provided the opportunity to explore how technology can support monitoring and worker engagement, SMEs and due diligence, and due diligence implications of circular supply chain models in the sector.
OECD Roundtable for Policy Makers
Held in lead-up to the OECD Forum on Due Diligence in the Garment and Footwear Sector, this second annual Roundtable convened policy makers from across key economies engaged in the garment and footwear sector and its supply chain to discuss policy options for enabling and promoting vibrant and responsible supply chains in the garment and footwear sector. It took stock of existing policy options and government-backed initiatives in the sector, explored how national textile strategies can support and enable responsible business conduct in the sector, as well as discussed how governments can achieve greater harmonisation on due diligence disclosure.
The Roundtable for Policy Makers was opened to government officials from OECD member and adhering governments and governments from key economies in the garment and footwear sector along with representatives from intergovernmental organisations.
Surveys on the sourcing practices of SMEs
We invite agents, brands, licensees, manufacturers, retailers, and wholesalers to answer the survey by the 30th of April.
As part of the implementation strategy for the OECD Due Diligence Guidance for Responsible Supply Chains in the Garment and Footwear Sector, the OECD is conducting a series of surveys that target SMEs operating within the sector. The goal of the surveys is to collect data on sourcing practices in order to identify pragmatic approaches to implementing due diligence that are tailored to their size, resources, nature of business, and sourcing models.
